Dr. Andrew RUSSELL MBBS., FRACS General Surgeon

Dr Andrew Russell was educated in Brisbane and obtained his medical qualification from The University of
Queensland Medical School.  Post graduate surgical training was based at Princess Alexandra Hospital in
Brisbane and was completed in 1989.  He then worked in Basingstoke, England for 2 years, gaining valuable
experience and advanced training in upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, upper gastrointestinal and pancreatic
surgery and colorectal surgery.

Upon returning to Brisbane, Dr Russell was appointed Director of Surgery at QEII Hospital and Senior Lecturer
in Surgery in the University of Queensland Department of Surgery.

In 1993, Dr Russell moved to Rockhampton and established a very successful, thriving specialist surgical
private practice, and was also a visiting surgical specialist surgeon to the Rockhampton Base Hospital.  He
worked as a true specialist general surgeon whilst developing specific expertise in advanced laparoscopic
surgery, upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and upper gastrointestinal and pancreatic surgery. 
Since 1998, Dr Russell has also been performing laparoscopic gastric banding for obesity, and this has
become a major part of his practice. 

Dr Russell is proud of the relationship he has with his patients.  He strives to provide an excellent surgical
service to patients, whilst maintaining a friendly, informal relationship with the people he is trying to help.
